The Last Shuttle Launch

IMG_9680

This was such a bittersweet moment!  I was so excited to share this experience with my children, but so sad that this was the end of the shuttle program.  I have so many childhood memories of the shuttle program.  I am excited to see what NASA comes up with next and I know we will be there to experience that too.IMG_9681

We watched the launch from the beach, about 22 miles from the launch site.  I will be completely honest, it doesn’t compare to the actual launch site, 3.5 miles from the shuttle.  With that said it was still awesome!

This is Jetty Park, and is where many of the cruise ships go out.  Two days after the launch we were out on the beach and decided to walk down to the pier to see the boats and you can usually see sea turtles and other wildlife.  We got super lucky and were able to see the NASA ship bringing in one of the boosters.  This is actually the second time this has happened to us.

This is the tug boat that goes out and escorts the ship in.  It sprays water as a salute to the ship.
